About this opportunity

Red Bee Media are looking for a Senior Developer to join their team on a permanent contract. The Access Services development team is a welcoming and supportive environment, and gives the opportunity for exposure to a range of new technologies such as Cloud Native development (AWS), Containerised deployment, integration with machine learning services, and more. Job Purpose

RBM Data Services use a number of tailored systems to assist with planning and production of Subtitling, Audio Description and Sign Language Translation output, and the role of the Developer will be to participate in the Development of these platforms. The role will require solution development from base requirements and user stories, on to continuous delivery in to deployment into test and production environments. Additionally, the role will require integration with related systems (e.g. client scheduling software, production software) and for ensuring optimal configuration is achieved for use in production.

Whilst this role is primarily technical, it requires excellent communication, teamwork and collaboration, working with clients and colleagues to deliver our technical architecture and strategy.

What you will do

Development

  • Development on shared codebase for production backend and frontend systems, web and micro services
  • Working through defined sprints of work as elaborated with product owner
  • Ensuring automated testing is used to drive better development and releases
  • Take a proactive lead in codification of cloud deployments; to deploy, configure, optimise and maintain code releases as products are developed. Support and manage these systems from a 3rd line perspective.
  • Develop automated tests to minimise (manual) technical and load testing.
  • Hacking together PoCs as requested when trying to establish feasibility of new ideas
  • Research, assess and recommend emerging tools and technologies.
  • Identify risks, issues and dependencies for technical solutions, operating on the basis of continual improvement
  • Provide professional and authoritative technical advice to colleagues and clients.
  • Contribute expertise to assist development of enterprise architecture, technology roadmap and policies
  • Identify and manage architectural dependencies and design conflicts within projects

Communication

  • Educate and evangelise the solutions / architecture to colleagues and clients
  • Involve relevant technologists, managers and end-users in decision-making, collaborating across the business to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Escalate technical issues and risks, ensuring that the business impact is understood
  • Provide briefings, presentations and recommendations on technology developments

Admin

  • Proactively ensure systems are documented and technical documentation is provided to support teams.
  • Maintain release notes for each formal release and ensure these are provided to the operational teams
  • Ensure changes are managed through the corporate asset management and change management systems.

Personal

  • Contribute proactively to team, department and company objectives, as well as personal goals
  • Keep up to date with corporate policies and procedures and follow them as intended
  • Respect company and client confidentiality
  • Continue to develop personal skills, knowledge and expertise
  • Represent the team and company with enthusiasm and professionalism

This is a remote position, reporting to Seville's office.

You will bring

Essential

  • Demonstrable Experience of developing and supporting Cloud hosted and Serverless deployments
  • Demonstrable Experience of work with Amazon Web Services
  • Demonstrable Experience of work with frontend JS web applications
  • Demonstrable Experience of work with Python
  • Understanding of the concepts and benefits of Agile, DevOps, Configuration Management, Continuous Delivery and Cloud Computing.
  • Practical appreciation of the application of IT technology within a high availability service delivery operation
  • Practical appreciation of working in a 24*7 business.

Desirable

  • Degree-level qualification
  • Experience working with monitoring tools
  • Extensive experience with internet protocols, standards, technologies and applications
  • Demonstrable experience working in Broadcast or Media industries
  • Practical knowledge of information security approaches Demonstrable experience of encryption systems
  • Demonstrable experience of TCP/IP based networks
  • Experience of, or a desire to learn, administration of Linux systems.
  • Practical knowledge of relevant standards and technologies
  • Experience with product development of customized, in-house, applications
  • Publication of internal and client-facing documentation.
  • Previous professional experience as a leader on technical projects
